Random Review: Undone by R. Phoenix and Morgan Noel

Title: Undone
Authors: Morgan Noel and R. Phoenix
Publisher: Self Published
Genre: Fantasy Gay Fiction
Length: 379 pages

Synopsis

Leandro is a capricious fae, and he has it all: a glamorous casino as his personal playground, more power than he knows what to do with, and Kol'tso, his pet incubus. When Kol'tso tries to push the boundaries of their relationship and provokes feelings in Bryce, a nosy detective, the arrangement becomes more and more complicated. Kol'tso soon finds out there is a high price to pay for angering one of the fae. He finds himself trapped between his nature as an incubus and his desire for freedom. Leandro and his personal security guard Gideon may just be the only obstacles standing between the incubus and everything he wants.

Undone is approximately 122,000 words.

Undone portrays realistic themes of abuse and dubious consent. It also includes mature elements some readers may find unsettling.

Excerpt
“What is it, Kol’tso? Did you finally decide you were hungry?” Leandro asked petulantly, stretching out in the tub as though seeing his incubus didn't make him ache in more ways than one. He pointed to his empty glass. “I'll need another if that's what you're after.”

His words were met with silence, though there was something dark and dangerous behind the incubus’ eyes that he couldn't place. It looked like anger, terrible anger, and it was in brief moments like this that the slave looked disturbingly fae — and suspiciously like him... If someone didn't know better, they might’ve even been fooled. Leandro wasn’t sure he liked that.

The moment faded, and Kolt looked at the drink in his hand before looking back at the empty glass. Without a word, he stepped closer, right up to the edge of the counter by the tub where he wordlessly exchanged one glass for the other.

“Do you want me here, or should I just go back down?” the incubus asked, his voice quiet, guarded, as if he was expecting bad news.

Leandro didn't know which answer Kol’tso would prefer.

“Where do you think your place is, Kolt?” Leandro asked, drinking from the glass before offering it back to the incubus in what he thought was a conciliatory gesture. “Here, at my side? Or somewhere away from me?”

That terrible rage threatened to break through the surface, and he wasn’t sure if it was his own or Kolt’s — and the fact that he had to wonder infuriated him. Kolt needed to remember he was a slave. Perhaps he’d been too lenient…

“Wherever you want me,” Kolt answered flatly. “Which is apparently somewhere way at the bottom of your contact list, after Gideon and even your pet detective,” the incubus added, his bitterness clear as day.

Or perhaps he hadn’t been too lenient.

“Oh, Kolt,” Leandro said, his voice softening. He straightened, gently pressing the drink into his incubus’ hand. “I knew that would take only moments. I wanted it out of the way so I could give you all of the attention you deserve.”

“And what do I deserve?” Kolt questioned in turn, bringing the glass up to his lips but not drinking from it.

“My entire focus,” Leandro said, rising. Water slid down his body into the large tub, and he reached out and touched Kolt’s cheek with one wet hand. “No distractions. You and me, Kolt, together.”

“Yeah?” Kolt mused, his eyes narrowing a little. “So lock the door…?”
“Lock it,” Leandro purred, stepping out of the tub. “Shut out the world. No one else exists tonight, my Kol’tso, except the two of us.”

Review

This book was absolutely amazing. It had me hooked from page one and kept me guessing throughout with all of it’s twist and turns.

I have read a few in this genre and noticed the storyline either resembles all others or becomes repetitive as the story goes on, so I was a little skeptical when Undone was recommended to me by a friend. I am so happy I decided to read it, it is now one of my favorite books of 2018 so far.

Kolt is an incubus, as well as a slave to Leandro, the fae. Kolt’s luck gets worse when Leandro makes a choice to take away the one thing he needs to survive..

Grab Undone for yourself today to see what happens to Kolt, and meet the rest of the otherkin and humans involved in this crazy journey. I recommend Undone to everyone, especially if you’re new to this genre..

Synopsis

Never Question, always obey.

The world is cruel for a companion whose sole purpose is to fight beside his warlock masters in the heat of war.

A war that rages between warlock and vampire.

A companion must be their mater's shield as well as their submissive, and a warrior who chooses otherwise will receive a cold-blooded punishment. Quinn is a companion who serves his master in any way that he desires, and always without question. Specifically created by the warlocks from a combination of magic and life essence to win the war, Quinn is the perfect companion to use in order to gain the upper hand against their blood sucking enemies.

But when Quinn's master perishes from a vampire attack, he finds that the warlocks no longer have a use for him, and Quinn is left with a choice. Run, or be disposed of like his brothers and sisters before him.

The world is cruel for a companion who chooses to run away, but when an enticing and dangerous vampire begins hunting Quinn for answers he may or may not be able to fulfill, his fate dangles by a thread.

Will he choose to escape the clutches of the warlocks and try to survive on his own? Or will his submissive nature take over and let the warlocks choose his destiny for him, putting an end to his freedom and the vampire who seeks him?

Excerpt

Strip and wash yourself,” the vampire commanded. He leaned against the stone wall.“In front of you?” Quinn blurted out.

The vampire cracked an amused smile. Quinn eyed him suspiciously, but he did not move from where he stood in the room. The bathroom was small and open. If the vampire stayed where he was, Quinn’s entire body would be visible to his magnificent red eyes.

“I, uh… I can’t. Please leave,” he managed to get out.

Muscles rippled beneath the vampire’s sleeveless shirt as he crossed his well-defined arms in front of his chest and cocked an eyebrow. One thing was certain. The vampire was not going to leave.

Quinn’s face heated. At least when he’d been the warlocks’ prisoner, he’d had some form of privacy when he’d showered and relieved himself.

But this would be a losing battle. He gripped the bottom of his dirty, ripped shirt and lifted it over his head, dropping it onto the rock covered floor. His small frame shivered from the cold that lingered in the cell. He glanced back at the vampire, who was still standing in the doorway with his massive shoulders taking up most of the space. The idea of getting past such a strong being was a hopeless one.

The vampire caught Quinn staring and nodded. “The pants too. Those have to come off.”Quinn cast his eyes downward and bit his lip.

“Don’t tell me that you’re shy,” the vampire teased.

“I’m… I’m not used to someone watching, okay?” he answered quickly, a blush heating his cheeks.

The vampire chuckled. “Would it make you feel better if I were in there with you? Then I wouldn’t be watching. I’d be participating.”

Quinn gulped, trying to settle his nerves. “You’re not… I’m not…. I just…”

The vampire ignored Quinn’s rambling, quickly stripping off his own shirt and throw
ing it on the floor next to his. The vampire’s blood red eyes grew darker as he walked across the bathroom floor toward Quinn.

He’s stalking me, like I’m prey.

Quinn’s submissive nature came crashing to the forefront. He backed up until his back pressed against the cold stone wall. There was nowhere to run.

The vampire advanced upon Quinn until his muscular body pressed against his. One hand settled on the wall above Quinn’s head, while the other one gripped his right wrist without warning. The chill from the vampire’s body made Quinn shiver. He had no idea that vampires were this cold to the touch.

Quinn pushed his left hand against the vampire’s chest in a futile attempt to hold him at bay. He didn’t stand a chance. Vampires were ten times stronger than any companion.  The vampire stood against Quinn, still as a statue. Quinn’s heart pounded madly in his chest, so much faster than the faint beats of the vampire's heart vibrating through his palm. It was odd, like it was rarely beating compared to Quinn’s racing heart.

“I am sorry.” The vampire’s face leaned down toward his own. “My vampire side wants to come out and chase you for some reason. This only ever happens when I hunt for big game in the woods or when I see something I want but is hard to get.”

Quinn swallowed down the extra saliva that was caught in his throat. His brain frantically searched for an explanation. “I have… natural submissive tendencies. Maybe… maybe that’s why…” he whispered.

“Yes. You are not always submissive, though. I saw such fire within you last night. That goes against everything a companion is. Tell me. What are you really?”

Quinn sucked in a breath. “I’m just a normal companion, and you’re a vampire. I know what you want from me.” His breaths were shaky when he finally exhaled.

“Oh?” the vampire’s lips drew up into a smirk. “And what do I want, little one?”

“You want my neck… my blood. You’ve been staring at it since you came in.” There was no mistaking it.

“Yes, I must admit that I do. Like I said before, companions have such a sweet taste, or so I’ve heard. I have always loved my sweets.” The vampire lowered his head toward Quinn’s neck and lapped at the sensitive skin there.

Quinn gasped, hips jerking as he sought out something he could not name. He couldn’t fight this vampire, but he found he didn’t want to. What was wrong with him?

“Has anyone ever taken you before?” The vampire sucked on Quinn’s skin, making his blood rush to the surface.

Quinn struggled to find words. His body was a mess of nerves. “I… my last master… I sucked him, but he never entered me. He said that it was dirty.”

The vampire lifted his mouth from Quinn’s neck and stared into his blue eyes. Quinn felt the obvious lust radiating from the vampire. He was drawn to this vampire even though it was madness.

“No, your master was wrong. It’s not dirty. It’s a beautiful thing to do. I can show you,” the vampire purred. He stroked a finger along the area he’d just been just sucking.“But… you’re a vampire… You kill companions. I don’t know who you are… I don’t even know your name.”

“And I don’t know yours.”

“It’s Quinn,” he answered, almost immediately.

“Mine is Raphael. I am the prince of the vampires.”

Quinn’s eyes widened. “You’re th-th-the prince?”

Raphael nodded.

“I… I’m… you…”

“Shh. Quiet your mind,” Raphael told him. “Just because I’m the prince doesn’t mean that you’re in danger. It actually might work out for you in the end.”

A Disillusioned Dom

A Devastated Sub

When Craig walks into the first kink club he’s been in for months, the last thing he expects to see is his former Dom, Tim, wearing a collar. If learning his ex is a switch isn’t shocking enough, Craig quickly finds himself on the wrong side of his ex's Dom. When the reunion turns ugly, another Dom swoops in and saves the day, and Craig is too shaken to argue when the sweet Dom steps in and takes care of him.

Alan noticed the boy the minute he walked into his club. It was hard not to. He was beautiful, sad, and fully clothed. Once the boy is in Alan’s arms he knows he doesn’t want to let him go, maybe ever. He worries that even though his hardcore Dom days are behind him, his experience will scare Craig and he’ll lose the chance to have something real with him.

Their relationship quickly heats up, but Craig can’t stop wondering if an inexperienced sub will be enough for a seasoned Dom in the long run.

Chapter One

Craig
He shouldn’t be nervous. He’d done it before. He’d walked into clubs before and never felt the sickening swirl of his stomach as its contents prepared for launch. Craig swallowed, then popped another antacid into his mouth and chewed it up.

He could do this. He needed to do this. He normally hated the club atmosphere, but it had pleased Tim to take him places and show him off, and if he hoped to move on he needed this. He had to get over Tim. He needed someone who would give him the things Tim gave him and there was only one kind of place where you were guaranteed to meet the kind of person Craig needed to meet. Tails had a reputation as a popular kink club. Tim had never taken him to this club, and Craig hoped that he’d be able to go in there. He’d tried to visit a different club a few weeks ago, but couldn’t make it past the bouncer.

It was a place he’d frequented with Tim and the bouncer recognized him on sight. He looked at him with those big, sympathetic brown eyes and Craig’s insides liquefied. He quickly lost his nerve and hurried back the way he came. Everyone understood what happened to him, well, everyone in that circle knew. It was why he hadn’t talked to any of his former kink friends since Tim left him. Maybe if he did, he could at least figure out what he did to drive Tim away. Perhaps he could find out why he came home from work one day to find all of Tim’s stuff gone.

Craig cursed himself and wiped away an errant tear. He needed someone to get him out of his head before he lost his mind completely. Tim had been perfect for him. Roommates at first, then friends, then lovers. One fateful night they stumbled into something more; something that took everything they had together and made it all that much better and more powerful and meaningful. Or so Craig thought.

They spent a year together exploring the lifestyle. Both newbies, they muddled through a little on their own before Tim insisted they join a club and do it right. Everything seemed perfect. Tim was a good Dom. Sure, he made a few newbie mistakes, but Craig made some mistakes as a first time sub. Despite the times they stumbled, discovering his need for submission had to be the best thing that ever happened to Craig. Even when Tim wanted things that Craig didn’t feel comfortable with, he still relished belonging to him. Craig figured that even though they were out of sync to begin with that over time they’d get better at the whole Dom/sub dynamic of their relationship.

Then Tim left.

Now, eighteen months later, Craig’s life was a wasteland, and he had tired of it. Tired of being tired. Tired of being angry and miserable and feeling like a total failure. He needed to get out of his head. He needed to break the sick cycle of thinking that had him awake most nights.

Craig stepped out of the cab a few blocks from the club and walked the rest of the way. He kept his head down and stuffed his hands in his pockets and returned to the club he’d visited a few days ago to set up a membership.

Most places used the same basic set up, go in one door, sign in while they reminded you of the basic rules, gave you a color-coded club standard BDSM wrist band indicating Dom or a sub, available or unavailable. Then you got to enter the world of kink unfettered.

Craig hated places like these, but they were better than meeting someone on a random app. He didn’t like the idea of meeting a complete stranger who liked to tie people up. At least the club provided a controlled environment with people employed to keep their patrons safe.

It was little comfort.

Craig ordered a juice from the bar and looked around. He’d already been here once, for a few minutes, but during the day when the place was empty. Now it crawled with leather covered studs of all varieties. Craig raked his eyes over the crowd and took a deep breath. In a minute he’d get up the courage to throw himself into the fray. He drank his juice first, sipped it slowly until he emptied the glass. When he’d returned the glass, he took a deep breath. In another minute he’d slip into his sub mindset and maybe then a hot Dom would approach him and make him soar and forget about Tim.

Tim, whose eyes met his.

Tim, who he hadn’t seen in eighteen months stood ten feet from him. He looked at Craig with wide eyes and a slack jaw. Someone next to Tim put a hand on his shoulder and leaned in. That’s when Craig noticed the thick, black collar around Tim’s neck.

Tim had a Dom.

Tim was a sub.

Before Craig could wrap his mind around Tim being a sub, or a switch, or there, ten feet from him, Tim moved closer. Craig stood stock still like a cornered rabbit, too afraid to move.

The juice in Craig’s stomach churned. He didn’t understand anything anymore. He’d avoided all the clubs Tim used to drag him to for this exact reason. It wasn’t fair. Tim left him and now, the one time he’d gathered the courage to enter a club, Tim not only turned up, but as a fucking sub. A collared sub with a mammoth-sized Dom.

Only a few feet from him, Tim stopped. His master’s hand lay on his shoulder and Craig’s fist tightened. The fact that Tim had a master enraged him as much as it confused him.

“Craig. It’s good to see you. How are you?” Tim smiled, but Craig knew him well enough to know that it was fake, as fake as the rest of him. Betrayal fuelled Craig’s anger. He wanted to be anywhere but here.

“Go fuck yourself.” Craig turned to leave, but a hand on his shoulder stopped him.

“You’re a nasty little sub, aren’t you? That’s my boy you swore at and I expect you to apologize.”

Craig spun around and knocked the Dom’s hand off his shoulder. “Don’t touch me. I’ll talk to him however I want. I may be a sub, but I’m not your sub.”

Tim didn’t say anything. He stood there and let his master grab at Craig and bark at him to apologize and he stood there and watched with complete disinterest. As if Craig never mattered to him at all.

Craig glared at Tim as angry tears sprang to his eyes. He didn’t care if Tim saw him cry, it wouldn’t be the first time. “You’re a piece of cowardly shit.”

“I told you not to talk to my boy like that.”

Craig flinched at the Dom’s voice. Powerful and commanding, the tone was also edged with a bit of anger. Craig took a step back. “Screw you.” He knew he shouldn’t get so mouthy with a Dom, but his heart hammered as his vision blurred. At the same time, he couldn't catch his breath. Worse, his brain didn’t appear to be in control of his mouth anymore and he heard himself yell. “Screw you and screw him too.” Craig turned to leave, but the Dom caught his arm.

Before he could wonder what would happen next, another man came over and pulled the Dom’s hand off Craig’s arm.
“What’s the trouble over here?” He had to be a Dom. Not as tall or as wide as Tim’s giant of a man, he oozed a certain presence and had to be important because the angry Dom suddenly curbed his attitude.

“This little sub here seems to have a problem with my boy. They exchanged words and I want him to apologize.”

“Fuck you, you shit.” Craig’s voice cracked. “And fuck him too.” Craig panted, and fresh tears streamed down his cheeks. The other Dom appeared to be trying to spin it to make him look like the bad guy, and he might be, but all he wanted to do was leave. The guy should’ve let him go.

A hand touched his shoulder. “Kneel down, boy.”

 Review

Sweet, touching story. Found that the characters drew me in, wanting to know what happened next. What happens to them, to the others. How did they get where they were.

Found myself cheering for Craig and Alan. Disliking Tim and Mike Wanting to know more about Steve and Matt.

Had a hard time putting it down. The story answers your questions regarding the background of the characters. How they developed to who they were in the story How the main characters found what they were searching for. Ended up falling in love with Craig and Alan. Watching them find one another ,find what each needed. Beautiful story. Cannot wait for the next one.

 Review

What He Needs by E.M. Dennng is the first book in the Desires Series. This novel is a MM romance that has BDSM, a Daddy/little relationship and D/s Relationships in it. Craig is a new submissive who was hurt by Tim, his ex boyfriend/Dom,18 months prior to the start of this story. Alan is the owner of a kink club as well as an experienced Dom who was hurt by his ex boyfriend/submissive, Mike.

Craig was never into the club scene. He detested going to them, yet Tim had dragged him to them repeatedly. In an attempt to move on from the past and find what he was needing, Craig finds himself in Alan’s Club. One that he never would have expected Tim to be at. Much to Craig’s shock and dismay, Tim was there, collared and a submissive to his new partner, Paul. As the hurt came forward in Craig and bubbled to the surface then exploded outward, Paul became irate at Craig for the language and attitude that was given toward Tim.

Enter Alan. Sweet Dom Alan who is determined to get down to the bottom of what was going on. Instinctively he knew that Paul and Tim were behind the problem yet Alan had no clue what what or why. Finally getting the situation under control then forcing Paul and Tim to leave, Alan took Craig into his office to help settle the boy down. Things progressed from there. When I say progress, Boy do I mean progress.

While I don’t want to give away any more spoilers about what happens, I will say that within the pages of this story, I found myself falling in love with Daddy Alan and little Craig. At the same time, I developed a deep dislike bordering on hatred for Tim and in the end Paul and Mike as well. Many times I wanted to knock Tim and Mike upside the back of the head for hurting Alan and Craig the way they did.

I will say that there were a couple minor editing issues where a word was left in that probably should have been taken out but that did in no way take away from my enjoyment of this book. I give What He Needs 4.5 stars and look forward to reading more in this series.
