Review

I have loved all of the books in the Ellery Mountain Series, but I have a sweet spot for this one. That may Be because of my support for veterans because of my family history, but the love that blossoms between Travis and Avery is beautiful!!

I feel in love with Travis immediately. He is an ex-SEAL, and the first one at the new centre for veterans in Ellery. With physical and psychological battles to face things for Travis won’t be easy. When he meets Avery things start to change, he immediately feels like he wants to open up to Avery about what happened, and why he is in Ellery at the centre.

I recommend this to all romance lovers!

Excerpt 1

"So, I've been meaning to ask, do you surf?"

Ryan blinked at Martin's question, which had seemingly come out of the blue just as they were wrapping up their latest call.

He adjusted his position; the laundry room floor wasn't exactly comfortable. "Uh, no, I can't surf."

Martin chuckled softly down the phone. "Isn't that what all you guys do in California? You surf, have bleached-blond hair and golden skin, and say, 'Totally rad, dude' a lot."

Ryan couldn't stop himself laughing, which actually felt really good, though he did smother the sound with his hand. Not that anyone in the apartment block was likely to be awake at three in the morning, let alone wanting to do laundry.

"You don't?" Martin's voice was full of fake shock.

Ryan laughed even harder. He squeezed his eyes shut and pressed a hand against his ribs, taking deep breaths to try to calm himself. He couldn't remember the last time he'd laughed like that.

"No," he gasped.

"Really? Because I keep expecting you to say, 'Cowabunga, dude.' So, I guess pizza isn't your favourite food, either?"

"Umm… I think you're confusing the 'surfer dude' stereotype with the Ninja Turtles." Ryan wiped his eyes. He leaned back against the washing machine he was sat in front of, careful to keep his bruised lower back from making contact with the unforgiving metal. "If that's what you think I'm like, does that mean you wear a three-piece suit, carry an umbrella and drink tea constantly?"

"Oh, yeah," Martin said. "That's an absolutely spot-on description of everyone in Britain. Even the women wear tweed suits all the time."

Ryan tried to hold the fresh burst of laughter inside him, but his ribs hurt too much to manage it. "And you're all soccer mad."

"Football," Martin corrected. "And we all dunk biscuits in our tea."

"What? Yuck. Seriously?"

"Yes," Martin said in a very serious tone. "Trust me, you haven't lived until you've dunked a chocolate digestive in your tea."

Ryan grimaced. He wasn't sure what a chocolate digestive was, but the thought of dunking a biscuit in a hot drink turned his stomach. Surely, it would just make a horrible mess? When he was a kid, his mom had given him milk and cookies, which he'd happily dunked, but cookies were way more solid than biscuits.

"I'll take your word for it," he said, not eager to ever try it out.

"You don't have to. I'll make you tea and biscuits if you come visit."

Review

Why I Trust You by Colette Davison is the third book in the Why I series. You can find our reviews for Why I Left You and Why I Need You by following the links. Each one can be read as a stand-alone and is loosely tied together by recurring characters.

I started reading the Why I series from the very beginning and have followed Colette throughout the series. I fell in love with her writing from the first page. Each book is an amazing work of art and her latest release - Why I Trust You - did not disappoint. In fact, while I love the first two books, this book goes above and beyond. It has to be my absolute favorite - and that says quite a bit.

Martin is a computer developer who is on a mission to find the best graphic artist for his latest game that he’s crating. An over - achiever who turns everything he makes into gold has quite the high standards for the person he hires. Ryan is an artist who is in an abusive relationship but wants to get out of it. He wows Martin with his art designs for the game that’s being developed.  Both men have trust issues from their past.

There is so much I can say about this book. It’s sweet, sexy, hot and loving. So many feelings that this story draws out of you! There are times when I  actually found myself laughing out loud and other times when I wanted to beat the living daylights out of Ryan’s ex, Zane. The story grabs you by the arm, draws you right in, and refuses to let you go until the very last sentence.It’s a must read for anyone who loves a good romance with characters who are working toward bettering themselves and overcoming obstacles.

Devon froze. In his wolf sight, the omega male was a monochrome figure in gray, brown, and tan. He had a round face and light hair, escaping in scraggly curls that were tied at the nape of his neck in an elastic band. If Devon had been human, his mind might have drifted to poetry. The soft roundness of his figure was hinted at tantalizingly beneath a thin rain jacket and sodden yoga pants. His lips were full, his nose upturned endearingly at the tip.

The omega smelled like the sweetness of fresh kill, and Devon wanted to lick him. To taste him.

Stupid with desire, Devon whimpered.

This was bad. A deep, instinctual part of him recognized that the omega in front of him was his true mate.

The omega froze in place. "Who's there?" He wiped the sleeve of his jacket over his face and blinked. Squinting into the darkness. "Hello? Who’s there?"

Devon held his breath. This omega was his true mate, and instinct demanded that Devon make his claim. But he had a job to do. If he revealed himself, he would put his entire pack in danger.

The omega sniffed the air. Between the rain and his weaker human senses, he should not have been able to smell Devon. But he tensed, and Devon recognized both fear and curiosity as the omega turned toward him. "You're an alpha. I don't know you." The growing panic was evident in his tone. He would shout for help soon. Devon was surprised he hadn't shouted yet. Maybe there was some way to salvage this. Devon shifted, and then hands raised, he stood.

Cold rain streamed down his body. Though Devon knew he lacked the essential viciousness that made an alpha truly strong, none of that was reflected in his body. A surge of pride washed over him as the omega's lips parted, and his eyes grew wide, and Devon smelled his desire.

"I'm Devon."

"Ezekiel. Zeke. Your, um…" Zeke ran his tongue between his lips, and imagining that tongue in those lips on him made Devon's cock swell.

Devon kicked himself. He should have stayed hidden. He should have killed Zeke before the omega had seen him. But Zeke was his true mate, and even if he hadn't been, Devon didn’t have it in him to kill an innocent omega in cold blood. He wasn't his father. He wasn’t his grandfather. Which meant Devon would have to take Zeke with him, at least until all of this was over.

Zeke was his true mate, and there was no way he was going to let the omega come to harm.

But first, he had to make Zeke comfortable enough to trust him.

"I have some clothes in this backpack," Devon said, shrugging his shoulders. "Do you mind if—?"

"Yeah! You should do that!" Zeke swallowed. "Not that I mind looking at you. I mean, you’re really hot and—" He shook his head, and judging by the tint of embarrassment in his scent, Devon guessed that Zeke had flushed as well.

It was perfect. And terrifying.

A hint of cigarette smoke carried on the wind caught Nate’s attention, and he realised he wasn’t alone. A hunched figure sat on a bench by the church. Wearing a heavy coat with the hood up, their head hung low staring at the grass between their feet rather than at the landscape stretched out before them. A cigarette hung from bony fingers that protruded from black fingerless gloves. As Nate watched, the man—because Nate could see his face now—raised his head to take a long drag before stubbing the cigarette out on the bench.

A shock of recognition made Nate’s heart jump, thudding erratically.

Jack.

Torn between conflicting urges to approach and flee, Nate stared at him, powerless to move.

How many years had it been since Nate had seen him? At forty-five Nate found each year passed faster than the one before. It must have been twenty years at least since he’d seen Jack, maybe more, and longer still since they’d spoken properly. Their last meeting had been nothing more than an awkward exchange of greetings when they ran into each other in the village pub one Christmas. The distance between them had cut Nate like a knife, so different to their teenage years when they’d been best friends, and almost inseparable.

Jack slumped forward again, letting the cigarette butt fall from his fingers. He put his hands over his face and Nate recognised despair and hopelessness, because they’d been his companions in the past. Acting on instinct, he approached.

“Sorry to intrude,” he said, pausing in front of Jack. “But are you okay? Is there anything I can do?”

Jack jerked his head up in surprise. His pale cheeks flushed as he shook his head. “Not really. Just having a bad day. You know how it is… or maybe you don’t.”

“I do.”

Nate studied him. The years had changed Jack, of course, but the essence of him was still the same. Sharp features, the strong nose Jack had always hated, even more defined with age, but more balanced now with dark stubble and the lines that the years were beginning to carve around his eyes and mouth.

As Jack stared back, Nate realised there was no recognition dawning on Jack’s face. To Jack, Nate was a stranger. Five years on testosterone had changed Nate to a point where Jack couldn’t see the person Nate had been before. Normally this was something Nate was glad about, but now he felt a pang of regret

Meet the Author

Jay lives just outside Bristol in the West of England. He comes from a family of writers, but always used to believe that the gene for fiction writing had passed him by. He spent years only ever writing emails, articles, or website content.

One day, Jay decided to try and write a short story—just to see if he could—and found it rather addictive. He hasn’t stopped writing since.

Jay writes contemporary romance about men who fall in love with other men. He has five books published by Dreamspinner Press, and also self-publishes under the imprint Jaybird Press. Many of his books are now available as audiobooks.
